The surprise election of one-time casino mogul Donald J Trump into the top job in world politics is surely good news for Las Vegas, right? Well Venetian/Palazzo owner Sheldon Adleson certainly thinks so, and is rumoured to have provided up to $75m towards the Trump campaign, including a staggering $25m of TV advertising budget in the final week of campaigning alone!
Adelson’s long time friend imminent house move into 1600 Penn Ave will see casino owners across Nevada hoping for better times ahead, afterall the GOP President, cannot be any worse for Vegas than Barrack Obama – who many in Sin City blame for their hard times and dwindling gaming revenues. Infamously telling the US public in 2010: “When times are tough, you tighten your belts. You don’t blow a bunch of cash on Vegas”, Obama has missed, or dodged opportunities to provide much needed tax breaks to Las Vegas Casinos owners.
Sheldon Adelson is used to getting what he wants, so for the sake of Vegas, lets hope his bet on Trumps proves to be a winner.
